I just changed my thermostat in my car because it was only getting to 40 degrees, even after driving for an hour. I now have heat in the car and the temperature guage is just a bit above the 80 degree mark. The outside temperaure is abot 30 degrees F right now, does this sound ok?

My thermostat got stuck to the point where when idling for long periods of time would reach about 100C and while driving would stay around 60C. Since I changed it it stays a tad above the 80 mark and if idled for long periods of time reaches about 90C max.

Thanks!
After seeing the car run for many months at 40 degrees, I just bought the car, I began to worry.

I'm going to re-open this thread.
My 560SEL also has the thermostat stuck open symptom. I have a new one that I just received from Fastlane. Someone earlier mentioned that the part cost $45. I think it was about $20 on Fastlane.

I want to jump in here too. I just finished a rebuild on an 85 380SL. I took it 20 over to clear the taper in the sleeves and damage from a bent rod ('nother story). The car had not been running for a few years before I bought it. I'm having trouble with it heating in traffic. It's fine on the hiway and stays around 90c, but when I get in traffic it'll go out the top. My best guess is the fan clutch, but I'm not positive. My other guess was the thermostat but the symptoms don't seem right and from I've read here, I would be seeing the problem the other way round. Anyone had dealings with a problem like this? (Ain't the time - done checked that)
