Injector Cleaner

Is it a good idea to use any kind of gasoline additive or injector cleaner on an '86 430SEL?

Thanks,
Geno.

It's not necessary unless you are having some kind of driveability problem, in which case it might be worth betting the price of adding a bottle of injector cleaner to the fuel tank when you fill up.

Also, the only product on the market that I think is really effective is Chevron Techron.

Periodic additions of an injector cleaner or having "injector cleaning service" performed by some shop is not necessary.

I would agree with that... both from hear say and personal experience...just feels smother after Techron treatment.

But what I wonder is can Techron cause a leaky EHA, or have any other negative impacts on the fuel system components?

Anybody know?

I hear that the BG 44K is supposed to be a great product although I haven't tried it yet. http://img153.echo.cx/img153/6681/bg44k0bi.jpg

I have been using Lubro Moly Jectron which works for me. The moment I put in in and step on the pedal I feel a difference. I have used this product along with the valve cleaner "Ventil Sauber" in 5 different cars and always felt a difference. The throttle reponse is better and increased mileage. All the cars I have used the products in have had more than 60,000 miles.

I use Lubro Moly products in all three Benz. I swear by them. Use the injector with each tank in the 6.3 on account of the mfi system. Use it in the 124 and 210 just because. :D

Redline injector cleaners are very good (pep boys sells). BMW sells it in repackaged bottles. I use one bottle a year in each of my cars. Last time I used it in the Benz, it fixed a problem with my fuel gauge (the very common 300E problem where once tank is less than half full the gauge bounces around, cause by build up on sensor in tank).

I've used BG44K and the stuff works as advertised...something no other Injector cleaner has done for me.

This BG44K will remove intake valve carbon buildup all the others won't even touch....... I know this from personal experience.....In fact its the only injector cleaner for Gasolene engines I will buy anymore.

The most effective cleaner is Chevron's Techron. It is available at Costco for $9 for a pack of four bottles. It's a good buy. At one time it was the only cleaner recommended by MB. Don't know about now...

You may want to read this. Never heard of this before myself (in fuel system cleaning terms).

Mike.

Techron is crap....I had intake valve carbon build up so bad the car stopped running....all while using that ever other tankfull.

The dealer told me to use BG44K and that solved it in one tankfull.....

Get stopped by the fuel tax people looking for untaxed offroad fuel in the tanks of diesel trucks and cars. THe Red coloring will have you in deep doo-doo till you prove its not untaxed fuel.
