My car runs well and only has 71,000 miles on it but at idle it shakes pretty badly. It is not as bad when it is park but it gets pretty bad when in drive or reverse at a standstill. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what this could be, any possible options would be much appreciated.

check your engine mounts... there should be 13mm of clearance between the bottom of the metal shield and the front crossmember.

There are 2... drivers side is easier to check... passenger side is harder to get to.

I agree with A264172. I had that problem with a car once and when I had the car out for a road test during a Pre Purchase Inspection, the mechanic pointed at the engine mounts right away. I have also heard from many W124 owners that they changes their engine mounts. The previous owner of my car had them replaced before I bought the car.
