transmission pan gasket problems on a 92 190

Hello,
I have a 1992 190e 2.6 that needed to have the trans fluid and filter replaced. I thought everything was ok, untill i noticed a few drips followed by a massive puddle of trans fluid on the ground. I took it off and somehow it had a giant crack down the side. There were no parts places open at this point so i cleaned the old one real good and reinstalled. Now the car leaks like a sive when the car is off only. When it is running its dry as a bone. I rechecked the gasket(w/out pulling it off again. It appears to be fine. I noticed the crack in the 1st one right away Can anyone please help me out with this. i know itha it's something simple, and refuse to give up untill i get it. Thanks in advance Chris

If the pan's cracked, you need to replace it. If it's a cracked gasket, just wait until you can get a new one, and see if you can get your money back for the defective one.

Also, I would avoid driving the car until the issue gets solved. You run the risk of losing trans fluid while running, or introducing air/moisture into the pan as it cools down after running.
