I have read this word several times in this forum and am puzzled. What is it? Why would one want to "debadge" the car. And most importantly, if I wanted to conform and do it too, how is it done.

By the way, I still have a heater problem. Heat from the defrost, heat from the dash, and cold cold feet (all the time no matter which button is pushed).

Debadge'ing, according to webster(-:, is the removal/aliasing of the model designator that is mounted on the rear of the vehicle. For example, some sick'es remove the 500E badge and replace it with a 300D 2.5 badge. Thesick part is when the Chevy Nova gets aggresive, they are in for a BIG surprise.

Some people de-badge to make the car look cleaner, wider, whatever. My rear badge was on at a slight angle - I took it off to put on a new one, but liked it better without a badge. (I know what I drive!) The badge is glued on the car - check the search button for keywords like "badge removal" and there are several discussions on how to do it. It is more a matter of personal taste than conforming, so look at some of the members pics under the performance section and see if you like it de-badged or not.

Some people debadge to for the cleaner look or to hide their car's performance. But if you've ever been in Europe you will seen many luxury cars without badges. This is done as an anti-theft device because BMW and Mercedes-Benz name their cars by their engine sizes. Since a E430 looks just like a E200 but is worth nearly twice as much, a car thief will naturally target the E430. In Europe the cars aren't debadged they don't come with the badges from the factory at the request of the customer.

You could leave off the C and just do 2002. That would confuse the hell out of people.

I have a 1983 300SD and would like to "de-badge" for a cleaner look. When I looked at the "Turbodiesel" badge it looks like it has studs that fit into hole on the bottom. I don't want to take them off if it leaves hole. Am I wrong or are there really holes along the bottom?

Yes. There are little studs that stick out of the emblem that go through the trunk lid and are held in place by clips on the inside. The holes in the sheet metal will need to be filled with --- why not a sealant--- then, spot color it with the factory touch-up paint. If you decide to go back, you can take out the sealer and reapply the "badge". (What should I stamp on my 300CD with the Chevy 350 in it? I kinda like the looks on their faces when I zip by on hills.)
