190E 16v euro climate control & A/C questions
 

Hi all:
I have a 1987 190E 16v that got a new A/C evaporator, receiver/dryer, and compressor last year and a new A/C condenser the year before that. My mechanic told me that there was still a small leak in the A/C lines but not a big one. I put on the A/C for the first time this year, and it would not blow cold. Does anyone have the part numbers and approximate price (or just the part numbers so I can put them into fastlane) of all the A/C lines on the 16v? Also, I purchased the heater box and all the switches from a euro 16v to convert my car to the 3 knob manual climate control system, because I have already had to replace some of the vacuum pods behind the dash once (to fix the heat always coming out of the defroster) and I now have to do the rest (now there is heat coming out of the side vents no matter what). Does anyone have the vacuum and electronic wiring diagram for this system? It looks much simpler than the old system (only 4 vacuum lines). Thanks in advance.

Phil from fastlane gave me prices for all 4 A/C lines. The first 3 are relatively cheap (under $100 each) but the 4th line, the suction hose, is $1400!!!! Does anyone know what is so special about this hose? Can an A/C shop rebuild it for cheap? Thanks.

I would be interested in this information myself, as the ac in our euro 87 190d is not working.

Could you post the prices you paid for the other components? I'd be interested in how much you paid for your condenser and evaporator, compressor, etc. as I may be in that market soon.

There is absolutely no need to buy all new a/c lines. These are easily and economically rebuilt by your local auto a/c shop. They simply take off the rubber hoses and replace them. They have a special crimping machine to do this with.

To replace them is very expensive. In almost every single case a leaking line is due to deteriorated rubber hose.

If you don't have a local auto a/c shop there are plenty of them that you could UPS your lines to and they will come back as good as new. I know a very good and trustworthy shop in the Dallas area that is very reasonably priced.

Thanks for the help. I will find an A/C shop in my area and give it a shot. About pricing for the components, the compressor is about $170 on ebay, the condensor is about $100, and the evaporator (the cheapest genuine one I found, although ebay ones can be had for $100) was $340 but it came with a new expansion valve.
