CLK Instrument cluster
My car is a 2000 320CLK. I have the usual temp, gear pos and clock readouts that have gone bad. I found a used cluster out of a 2001 clk430 and hooked it up just to see if the readouts worked. They did, of course the mileage was for the other car but it also had the service engine light on. I know that I need to go to the dealer to reset the cluster to my car but is there a way to remove the center readout or "brain" on my cluster and put it in the newer one? I am wondering if the service light is on as it thinks it is a V8 and knows it is not and if the mileage is kept in the center unit? Also I hooked up a OBDII readout and it could not find a fault? I drove the car around the block and everything worked fine except the fault light. Anyone have ideas?

those things are picky. the version coding has to be exact. Its probably still coded for a 113 engine.
check with aftermarket warranty companies- they refuse to buy new clusters for their customers cars, they have us remove them and they mail them out to have the displays repaired. maybe one of them can give you a company that can do this for your old cluster. |
CLK Instrument cluster
Thanks for the reply, do you know if they can change the engine coding at the dealership or is it done at time of manufacture?
Thanks, :rolleyes2 |
They should be able to do it. Make sure they check all the coding in the cluster if that car had options yours doesnt or vice versa.
