The Star Magazine of The MBCA, noted what responce you can recieve in steering stability by replacing the "Dampener". Yesterday I replaced the Front shocks also. Would you believe: one nut, one bolt and nut and two bolts with a washer each. The dampener a bolt at each end, after you drop her drawers. I planned ahead and ordered a spring compressor from J.C. W. of Chicago. In less than three hours all three parts were replaced. WHAT a difference. The three were original, 1987,in service in '88, with 169,300 miles. JOY. Happy Trails Beep Beep from Houston.

hey donald,

Can you give tell me where the steering dampner is located and how did you replace it. It does look like a little shock absorber right?

Momentum,
the steering dampner is located under the car. It is an elongated shock attached to the drag link. Between both front wheels. One way to test it is, remove one end and push that end in. If there is no resistance, you need a new one. Good news is, they are around $30. All you have to do is remove two bolts, remove old dampner, put a new one in. You are done.
Good luck!
