Are the factory alarm remotes re-programable?

I am without any remotes for my 1996 s320 and the dealer wants $200 each. Can I buy one on eBay and re-program it? Does anyone have a less expensive source.

They are programed ONLY for 1 car when they are new & once that is done they WON'T work on any other car!

Dealers are the ONLY source for those keys!
