New Grill Screen Installed!
4 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to show how a new grill screen improves the look of the car.... I did not paint it since I was afraid of doing a shotty job and having it crack and peel... I really did not want that since the air intake is so close to the screen.... Cost was $19.76 for grill screen and $2.96 for hood release latch and $14 total for chrome strips All unpainted, brand new plastic! :) |
i heard they are a real ***** to install. Is this true. Where did you get it?
|
i just removed and painted my son's this weekend.... sprayed it with three coats of cheap black paint .... and then two coats of rustoleum black satin finish..
had all the paint around... I did mess up one chrome strip...so I will have to order a replacement... looks like a million bucs...... not all that hard to take the entire grill off and separate the grate from the chrome. we also "painted" the hood release with forever black.... also dyed an old set of beige mats from a previoius 300e... we dyed them black with rit dye in a laundry tub..... they came up nice... his car is real dark gray color..with gray mb tex interior. |
it's not that hard, i replaced mine recently.
how come in the picture, one grille looks bigger than the other? |

I would like a new black grille insert
I am impressed with how black the new plastic is on the new grille insert. I already painted my original with black paint, but I like the idea of having a new one that is more black, even though it has not been painted. I think I will order one, just to see if it is black enough for my tastes. Even if it isn’t very black, I will have a spare insert to paint or not paint as I wish.
My black painted grille insert. http://forums.mbnz.org/gallery/pics/W124_57784.jpg |
Yeah, yours its very black right now....
You probably will be disappointed... However, I still have my old one, which has a very rough surface feel to it now, PERFECT for painting... You can have it for a bit of money... The new one is very smooth... but I guess a good primer will work too... |

before and after pics...?
Can you put up before and after pics side by side of the car with the old grille and the new grille...? It would be nice to see...

Ksing44
Your painted one is the blackest it gets! The new insert is like a very very dark grey, close to black but not quite there... I think that for $20, it is a very nice "repair" to do, (now i have to do the headlight doors.. they are killing the look....) Anybody out there with a faded original grill will definetly be happy, but $4 more and you can have the best looking grill like ksing44s! Better than original!!!!!!!!! Immunity, Sorry, but that is the best comparision pictures that I have... search the forum and I am sure that you will find the before and after pictures you want. |
