M103 Fan Bearing Bracket Sealant
Engine M103, 1992 300E
I am going to replace this assembly due to noisy bearing. I have the tool for locking the fan pulley. MB Shop manual calls out a sealant for one of the bolts. Apparently this bracket has a bolt in common with the belt tensioner. In job no. 13-345 they refer to the sealant with two different part nos. 001 589 29 20, then one page later as 001 989 29 20. Looks like a typo. Searched the archives to no avail. Not really concerned with which one is correct, but what non-MB sealant should I use? Thanks, Steve |
It's not a sealant, rather a small rubber O-ring.
If you look at the blown up diagram of that job you'll see the small O-ring they refer to. If you go to your local MB dealer they should have one, or you can try Lowe's or Home Depot -- it's a standard size ring that fits snugly over the 13mm bolt, as that bolt goes thru the timing cover and into the chamber. Good Luck :D |
i would get the part from MB. I have tried the home depot, hardware store route... they neve seem to be right.

Thanks for the info. I would have figured it out only upon removal.
This saved me a bunch of aggravation and time. Steve |
