service enigne light

on a 1998 c 280 with no codes what else can cause this light to come on

check engine light

the DM could be defective, causing the light to be on, how are you reading codes? if you are using a generic obdII scanner, ther may be some mercedes specific codes stored that the generic unit does not recognize.
