Is there a compelling reason?

~NOT~ to use a set of Monroe dampers (shock absorbers) on the rear of a 300D Turbo? The price of OEM or "Billies" is stroke inducing by comparison...

I'm not looking to emulate AMG with this old lump, just keep it down onna pavement at ramming speed ;-}

There is nothing better than Bilstein and they are warranted for the life of the car. Cost is in the $50 to $75 range last heard. Chances are good that you need the subframe mounts and differential mount changed too if that's never been done.

I would buy nothing but Bilstein's.

I rode in a 300E with Monroe's, and the ride quality was completely unsatisfactory for the chassis. The ride was harsh. Real harsh. It was obvious that they weren't engineered properly for the car.

I have read (not experienced) that the Monroes have too much jounce damping (bump) for the typical Mercedes ride. The OEMs like Bilstein are less heavily damped on jounce, but more on rebound. So Monroes give a rougher feeling ride.

that's at least third hand info, so remember what it cost you. :rolleyes:
