Transmisson on my 91300SE is it shot??

Hi this is my first MB, a 91 300SE with 98k miles. I purchased it 3 months ago.
A few weeks ago, I noticed a clicking noise coming from the shift area while in
reverse and moving. Today suddenly it took about 3 seconds to engage reverse, and within 15 minutes it would not engage fully at all. I can hear
what sounds like a whistling noise when backing up???? I did change the fluid
and filter last month. Can this be some sort of vacumn problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Nice car, excellent vintage year. Only thing that comes to mind is an anecdote about my two w123 cars during trans fluid service. When the fluid was low, i.e. not yet topped off, the trans would make clicking noises. After topping off, it went away.

Don't know much else except that you ought to keep the car on ice until someone can point you in the right direction.

Hopefully it is something simple. YES !!!

Recheck the fluid level, maybe the torque converter did not fill all the way etc...

keep us posted.. try searching the archives based on your trans model name or number.

The B3, reverse clutches are worn (delay) allowing the reverse piston to contact the K1 drum (noise). You’re going need a rebuilt.

Be sure to check the fluid level first. When changing trans. fluid my car will make the same whistling noise and will not engage until the fluid level is correct.
