Hi everyone,

I would like to know what is done when they do a 60k service on a 1994 SL600.

My dad just took his car in, and they are telling him they have to drop the oil pan in a 60k service to change a pump filter.

I have not heard of this before, and neither has my dad.

What gets done in a 60k service. If my father is being jerked around by the dealer, I want to know so I can take it up with MBUSA.

Thanks for all your help guys. I know you will set me straight on this.

The 60K is the most labor & parts intensive service required, BUT pulling the oil pan is a new one on me! Has there ever been any oil pressure problem??? Has the engine oil been changed?? There is a screen on the pump but it's not part of any service sehedule.

Well, I have not heard of this. If it is a fact that you do have to remove the engine oil pan, it is news to me.

I would perform a 60K as outlined in the maintenance manual that is with the car. It will show exactly what is to be done.

1 oil and filter
2 air filter
3) spark plugs
4 air recirc filter
5 spark plugs
6 lube rubber at doors and trunk
7 diff service
8 power steering service
9 tranny service
10 fuel filter
11 check all other fluids

This is just SOME of the things I do......

Is there possibly some confusion here between the engine oil pan, and the auto transmission pan? You do have to remove the transmission oil pan to change the transmission oil filter..perhaps this is the "pan" referred to, but lost in the translation between the technician, service advisor, customer, and the son.

No they specifically said they needed to drop the pan to change the oil pump filter. trans pan and filter have been changed already. The oil pan thing is something they topped on it when he went to pick up the car.

They said by the way. we need to dropt he oil pan you car wont be ready for a couple more days.

He does have a loaner car, a c230 kompressor. quick little car. My dad says, "It goes like a bat out of hell!"

:)

His compression and everything was perfect, no problems at all. only problem I saw was twitchy steering, so he took it in for that, and while there , decided on the 60k service.

but every time he calls to pick up the car they tell him something else needs to be done. its getting to be a hassle.

They wanted him to pay $700.00 for a new radio antenna, which I can get for around $50.00
