Key, lock questions
 

A couple questions for the board. Occasionally, the alarm system on my '86 300E will go off when I unlock the door. (Yes, I'm using the correct key. :)) I have dis-armed the horn so I only have to deal with the flashing lights. Annoying.

1) Is this a function of a worn ignition key or worn tumblers in the lock?

2) The driver side lock is beginning to deteriorate, i.e., the chrome face where the key is inserted has disappeared.

3) If I choose to replace the lock-set with another, can it be keyed to my original key?

does it do this from the passenger side or the trunk? if not switch the door tumbler from the passenger side to the drivers side and see if that works, or if you want to disable the alarm completely, under the passenger side rug towards the fire wall you will find a black odd shaped control unit, unplug both connectors, that will eliminate your alarm issue, the unit may be under a metal or plastic cover.
