Where to buy new/rebuilt/used tranny for 92 400E

Looks like my 92 400E tranny is going to the big junkyard in the sky, so I am looking to purchase another. I have quotes from Adsit and Sun Valley Dismantlers and am looking for more quotes. Adsit has them on sale for $1198 and Sun Valley at $1250. Both with limited warranties.

Also how far do these places go to "rebuilt" the tranny? Does this vary depending on the condition of the tranny when the receive it?

Thank you!

Where you live Adisit would be the obvious choice. Why have you decided not to rebuild the one you have?

I agree with deanyel. When mine bit the dust last summer at 145k, I had my local independent tech rebuild it. He spent 14 years at the dealership and had already done a hundred or so...

For what it's worth, Adsit doesn't have the world's best reputation for standing behind their wares (from the Ritter/Easley list).

Another option, of course, is to buy a genuine MB-rebuilt. It'll cost you more but would have all the newest updates.

Having him rebuild my current one is my first choice, but he is missing a "special tool" in order to do the job. He purchased two new buildings and in his move, this tool has come up missing. He has tried ordering it from MB but they tell him it has been on back order for months now. I posted this tool here on Mercedesshop but have received no comments on where I could procure one so he could rebuild it. He has four tranny's sitting in his shop, partially completeed, just waiting on this tool. I was just considering my option without having to wait until he finds this damned tool. That may take months and I do not want my car down that long, because that turns my CLK55 into my daily driver.

Here is the tool info if anyone can help me out:

Tool # 126 589 02 14 00
58mm inside sleeve for installing the K1 clutch piston

Any help is greatly appreciated, as I have tried all the tool sites I can find.

400E, thanks for the insight on Adsit...I just need to find that "special tool".

Are Baum Tools and Smastag Tools two of the places you tried?

Yes, I tried them also. Baum had nothing and Samstag is going to get back with me after he checks some vendors.

Thanks for your help!
