ANY Play in Water Pump Bearing Acceptable?

I put in an ISI (Italian) water pump in my 560SL. The pump was new. I know there have been comments about off-brand pumps but the casting and impeller looked virtually the same as the MB. I notice that there is a small amount of bearing play (NOT enough to see, just barely enough to feel). The belts have been tensioned properly via the "push" rule and verified with a Krikit tool. Do you think that ANY play is OK? Or should I just keep an eye on it? If it is bad, will it go quickly or slowly?

I don't know the 560 sl water pump, but I do know that a minor amount of play can be felt in the factory water pumps that go on the 103/104, 112/113,
and 111 engines. And when I say minor, I mean very very little. You'd expect it to be perfectly smooth, but I have experienced a lot that have a very small amount of play right out of the box.
If you see ANY wobble in the pulley then NO it is not o.k., another quick way to check it is to put a stethoscope on the pump while the vehicle is running and see it if sounds rough, clangy, or just not right.

Where did you buy it from..?...Any reputable store will replace it and pay ( some.) labor if done commercially.

I have used those Italian pumps before and so far have not had any leaks or any go bad prematurely....Of course, our resident expert, would say to use OEM no doubt..It is highly unlikely the new bearings would make any noise you could hear.....Do you feel the play in the boss or at the pulley rim ?

FWIW....Ferodo told me that belts should be tight and it is not their (FERODO ) fault, w/p bearing don't last long.
