auto-dim mirror, OH trip computer, radio ON-OFF w/ ignition failure

Ever since having our '99 ML430's motor's main pulley ass'y replaced, the radio does not turn off with the ignition, the rearview mirror's dimming feature fails to power up, the little readout screen in the OH center console is nonfunctioning, and the Homelink garage door programming (located in OH console - those three buttons) show no signs of life. The dome lights and sunroof work fine. As an aside, is there a source other than an MBZ service mgr and owner's manual for acquiring radio code? Thanx in advance for any and all consideration.

Was anything else done to the vehicle while you were in for service?
Sounds crazy, but twice I have had ML's with radios that will not turn off when ign. key is removed , and overhead control panels that won't work -removed sun visors and found pinched/punctured wires.
And to sound even crazier: I found it because the radio would not shut off until i opened the mirror cover on the pass. side visor.
But your Harmonic Balancer repair has nothing to do with the radio.

No, supposedly there is no way to get a radio code for you vehicle except in a service Department. However, a few times Roadside Assistance has been known to give out radio codes as long as you can convince them over the phone - just depends on who you talk to. worth a try calling the number on your drivers visor.

Thumbs up it's fixed!!

all it took was a 10 amp fuse. I'd contacted MBZ-USA's website tech support and asked if it could be a fuse. They steered me clear of that notion and told me to check 'lead # so-and-so' for power, and if there was none, to trace out the wiring. This after I asked if it could be a fuse!!! (they said "no way!" That's how I started the conversation!! How grateful I am for the energy and info you people spread around via this site!!!

HAHAHAHA,

I have a dollar that says if they activate the visor light, by opening the mirror cover on the visor, the fuse will blow again.

fuse #, etc

it was 10 amp fuse # F10, which says it's for radio, glove box, vanity mirror light, and maybe 1 more thing(?). Odd that radio was working OK with this fuse gone. Also, I tried the mirror/light a few times, and it stayed ON. So far so good. (but the darn ESP/BAS came back on - this is from another thread/issue, resulting from battery replacement)

Exclamation Problem-free

happy to report my INability to blow F10 by playing with ALL related accessories. (also, esp/bas lite went out as soon as the ESTROGEN left the immediate area!!) it would seem that you may have been (repeatedly?) dealing with a short in your vanity mirror, or (?). HAVE FUN! , and thanx to ALL for all the support!!
