!!!MB now recommends ONLY synthetic oil for cars/trucks with flexible service!!! Looks like they have conceded that the dino oil won't hold-up under pressure.

Been to Chicago lately? My friend the MB Tech just got back a week or two ago and told me the same thing. He was telling me in a little different context. He told me that now I don't have to bring my own Mobil One at FSS time.

Is it pressure that is driving this change or is it that the dino oil is gunking up a little when stretching it to the FSS time? It seems like it was you that said that there were some engines seen gunking up a little when changing only at the FSS time.

Ugh. Those of us driving diesels with FSS (you know who
you are...) now must find CG-4 rated synthetic oils to
use. These ain't exactly common. Oh well, I was looking
for a justification to switch over to Delvac 1 anyways.

The term that we use is SLUDGE. And it seems as though some engines are using somewhat TOO much oil.

Remember, FSS was designed in Europe (and consequently here) for SYNTHETIC oil. They let conventionals run too long and are causing all sorts of problems inside. 90% of these problems can be solved by just switching to a name brand synthetic though. I always tell people no more than 5,000 miles on conventional and 7,500 on synthetic (although if you drive on the highway a lot it could probably go much longer).

We talked about it at my shop, and we are going to use the Mobil 1. This is a wild thing but Doc and I talked about it long ago.
They had to do something...I was just wondering HOW. How, after you engineer something, do you re-engineer it? Well, I guess they figured it out.

You have to tell the customer that the price of the FSS oil service has now doubled or more.!.!

Most people are gonna love paying $60+ for an oil change <grin>. If you don't appreciate Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec, it's a lot of $$$. Good choice to use Mobil 1 though. My friend is the shop foreman at RBM and they use Mobil 1 15W-50 exclusively on everything.
