Who's Done 380SE Exhaust?
I'm embarking on replacing the lovely but leaking original one-piece exhaust system with a ANSA 2-piece. I also ordered the exhaust mounting kit, which looks like it has way too many parts for the job. Is this a $35 ripoff or are all these parts actually used? Why copper nuts?
On a side-note, I was surprised when I came home and found 2 mufflers laying on my driveway. Thats how they were shipped, the company just slaps labels right on the muffler and sends them out. I had to reshape the hanger pieces since they were bent from being slammed around. I'm not too impressed.

I haven't done one yet, but I've ordered a Bosal 2-piece for my 300SDL and am about to embark on the job in a week or two.. let me know how yours goes!
I bought the two pieces and just a clamp. I think I only need two bolts & nuts to attach it to the front pipe, and the two sections clamp together. Not sure why all that other stuff is in the kit, but there is a clamp in your picture that looks like the one I bought. You should be OK with the kit. Look at www.timevalve.com for your car.. there is a diagram of the exhaust, and it shows where all the clamps and bolts go. This was immensely useful in helping me order the right parts! Neal

I did a Timevalve stainless system on my old 1984 380SEL and had to do a bit of "massaging" to get it to fit halfway decently. I then drove to a local muffler shop and they removed the clamps and welded (TIG?) the joints and aligned the whole system for about $70-80.00. I felt better with a system with no undercar exhaust leaks.

I'll let you know how it goes. The kit has 2 circular type clamps, and 2 U-bolts but no saddle (or whatever that cross piece is called). It seems to be a catch-all for whatever muffler(s) you get. I personally hate exhaust clamps, I like flanged ends with gaskets and bolts. Are those round stamped clamps any good?

Job finished. The old system almost fell off on its own. One problem: the flange around the cat outlet split in two. I managed to replace it with a 2-piece flange that matches the muffler side perfectly. The rear muffler is a little short, as the hangers have to stretch quite a bit for the front and rear muffler sections to join properly. I definitely needed a new metal gasket between the cat and front pipe, since both ends are flared. Its very quiet.
