How many miles are on it? When was the last transmission fluid/filter change? I would suggest trying to measure the transmission fluid level. Does the engine rev up and the car just not do anything?

No engagement, like no movement; does the car move in “R”. You need to provide more information. .

sorry...
ok, so yes, it's all rev and no movement/engagement in any gear.
and about 170k on the clock.
i'm pretty sure that the fluid/filter situation is ok.

If you have nothing, ie no reverse etc..I'm going to wager you have experienced catastrophic failure.. I'd drop the pan, see what there is to see..!

ack!!... what could a "catastrophic failure" mean exactly, besides a huge hole in my wallet?

The only way it could not be the trans or torque converter is if your shifter linkage somehow came undone. Did you notice any difference in how the shifter felt going from one position to another? It's a long shot....

I would confirm the fluid level first.

Did you hear any noise, before the car stop moving, Does the shift handle feel different, like lose, if the answer is no and the transmission has fluid/ oil. You need a transmission.
