****Warning many pics!!!! - Need help with Clifford Alarm
I need to get the Clifford manual for the alarm system in my car. I had to replace the battery and now I don't know how to reprogram the alarm. Clifford will send me the instructions when I tell them the model number. They told me that every alarm has different settings so I need to know the exact one in my car. The alarm was installed by the previous owner. I searched for the alarm and could not find it. The remote control for the alarm system is carbon fiber and has 4 buttons on the front and 1 on the side. The alarm system also has a remote starter. I had to reprogram the alarm system once before and the person who did it for me pushed a few buttons on the remote and everything worked in a few minutes. He tried again, but this time was unsuccessful. Now, I pulled the fuse out otherwise the siren will go off.
Here are some pics of what I've done so far: This is what I believe is called the Valet Switch http://img233.echo.cx/img233/2694/dsc031976uh.jpg Same pic just zoomed out. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/6208/dsc031980rb.jpg I pulled the Light switch out. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/9459/dsc031993gt.jpg Here it is without the switch. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/7976/dsc032003kb.jpg Now I had to remove the nut. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/3932/dsc032015bl.jpg A few twists and it was ready to come out. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/6317/dsc032023nj.jpg Here it is removed. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/577/dsc032037ge.jpg Next the Emeregency brake has 2 philips screws that need to be removed. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/7328/dsc032042xy.jpg Here they are. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/3913/dsc032053hm.jpg Now once you pull the handle, you can see a 3rd screw. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/2663/dsc032065ra.jpg |
The 3rd screw is in the middle. Sorry the pic turned out dark and blurry.
http://img233.echo.cx/img233/56/dsc032075ui.jpg In this picture you can see it better and notice the screwdriver in the hole that's in the middle of the emergency brake handle. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/4404/dsc032083tu.jpg Here is a closeup. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/820/dsc032093qz.jpg Next I removed the cover on top of the steering column. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/6564/dsc032105zr.jpg Here is a picture with it removed. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/8012/dsc032112xm.jpg Here is what the piece looks like from behind. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/1510/dsc032124qv.jpg Now the head light switch trim panel can be removed. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/1313/dsc032135lm.jpg This job requires an 8mm socket. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/9106/dsc032145ye.jpg On the right side of the steering wheel, over the ignition, the trimpiece comes out the same way. 2 more 8mm screws. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/7777/dsc032159bh.jpg First one on it's way out. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/9962/dsc032162ro.jpg |

To remove the lower trim piece the hood latch has to be disconnected. That screw has to be removed.
http://img233.echo.cx/img233/1149/dsc032280lb.jpg Now the connector must be pushed out. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/8240/dsc032299rp.jpg Here is a shot under the dash close to the steering column. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/9256/dsc032309lt.jpg Here is a picture of some of the crazy wiring I found there. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/9616/dsc032311ea.jpg Another shot. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/5730/dsc032327lw.jpg The connector for the emergency brake must be removed the same way as the hood latch. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/7581/dsc032330hc.jpg Picture of the hood latch handle with the connector removed. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/3613/dsc032343ni.jpg This picture is to the left of the steering wheel under the dash. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/3395/dsc032351dp.jpg Here is a closeup. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/3299/dsc032360rq.jpg This is to the far right where teh center console is. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/2401/dsc032375mu.jpg |
There is another plastic trim piece taht connects to the cover that is under teh steering column. To remove this, a small circular plug had to be removed that was deep under the steering column.
http://img233.echo.cx/img233/1759/dsc032386lb.jpg There is the inner trim piece removed. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/6779/dsc032393gf.jpg This is a picture taken from underneath in search for the alarm box. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/2831/dsc032405kt.jpg Still hoping to snap a picture of this black box that I have never seen before. http://img233.echo.cx/img233/1949/dsc032410fx.jpg This is a part that belongs to the alarm system. Does anyone see anything in these pictures that resembles the alarm black box that I need to find? Or does anyone see anything unusual? This is as far as I got today.

Take it to a local stereo/alarm shop and they may be able to help you. May be the brain is behind the stereo or in the center console where the shift knob is. There is a lot of places that you can hide the brain. Clifford is made by DEI so a lot of people have experience is it. Good luck.

I never thought about checking behind the center console. Thanks. I have been to a local shop and all they care about is getting maximum $$$$$. You don't want to know what the quoted me on resolving this issue. The first thing they said was ..."Ohhhhh it's a Mercedes. This is going to take a long time and it won't be cheap." |
Post a picture of your remote. I think you have a Clifford RS2.5. Here's the link to the owner manual for clifford alarm

It's not a RS2.5 for sure. Looks like an older version of Clifford. Did you find your answer in those manuals?

I installed my pager/auto start alarm next to factory alarm module since I have to splice into factory wiring to save time. I had to run few wires to left drivers side to ignition switch. I think most convenient place for alarm brain would be next to factory alarm in passanger foot rest area under carpet. I did my friends BMW and we replaced Prestige alarm with autostart. His alarm brain was hidden behind the center console near center floor wents. Check near factory alarm module. I hope this helps and good luck

I don't believe my car came equipped with a factory alarm module. Did the 1989 W124 cars have a factory alarm option? |
