1995 soft top latch
 

i have developed a leak in the soft top latch on my 1995 sl600. I need to remove the windshield molding that hides the cylinder and latch, but have found no screws bolts or fasteners that holds the moulding in place....any ideas....thanks, bob :confused:

That is a common problem, try search feature!

To remove the trim on the top of the windshield the top must be removed(out of the way) & then remove the 2 plastic guides that latch the front bow. Then the vinyl trim will slide to the rear of the car to access the latches/hydraulics

Just performed the procedure last weekend for the passenger side leak...driver's side cylinder leaked last summer.

There are a total of six screws to remove in order to get the cover off. The 2 big screws holding the plastic hinge bezels at the top, a screw on top of the rubber in the front corner of the driver and passenger window, and if you pull the innermost part of the rubber away from the body, you will see yet another screw with a trim washer that has to be removed (each side of course).

The whole deal attaches via clips along the front of the windshield, so removal requires lifting up from the rear, then pulling out. A bit stubborn to do the first time. There is a sensor attached to the panel, so don't yank it completely off!

You will need an allen wrench, a small crescent wrench and a torx head screwdriver to do this job properly. You can do this without the torx (used to remove the three bolts that hold the entire hinge mechanism in place), but the small confines make the removal of the cylinder pretty tedious.

BTW, the system is self-bleeding, so once installed, you don't have to do anything else...except maybe check the level in the fluid reservoir, in case you've leaked a lot...
