W124 Center Console 1/2 lit
Anyone have a link on how to remove the center cosole trim to change the bulbs? Only the right side of the center console lights up right now. I'd like to get this out of the way since it's the only bulb in the interior that is burnt.

 Just lost the entire post for some reason. Here we go again...
I removed the 2 screws that hold the wood panel over the center console. As you can see, these screws are on the underside. http://img119.echo.cx/img119/9446/dsc034390hh.jpg Next I removed the 6 visible screws holding the unit together. 2 screws on top and 2 screws on the side. http://img119.echo.cx/img119/7901/dsc034340hw.jpg Then I pulled the unit apart. http://img119.echo.cx/img119/1497/dsc034358ta.jpg Here is a picture of the front part of the unit. http://img119.echo.cx/img119/3659/dsc034371xg.jpg I pulled the sticker off and I see a bulb in there. http://img119.echo.cx/img119/4540/dsc034402ib.jpg Now what??? http://img119.echo.cx/img119/6791/dsc034415zc.jpg |
Maybe I should take this thing apart and get to it from the inside......
http://img152.echo.cx/img152/3451/dsc034424ay.jpg Let's see what we have in here. http://img152.echo.cx/img152/7923/dsc034437ss.jpg Here it is with the cover removed. It doesn't look like it's any easier to get to the bulb from here. http://img152.echo.cx/img152/6830/dsc034444cm.jpg Back to square 1. I can see the bulb, but how do I pull this thing out? http://img152.echo.cx/img152/2258/dsc034494jf.jpg I just got off the phone with the dealer and they suggest using a piece of vacuum tubing. Something I don't have rigt now. That's it, enough is enough, I'm gonna pull that little :bulb: out right here right now. Mission accomplished using a flat head scredriver and some serious desire to make it happen. Mission accomplished using a flat head scredriver and some serious desire to make it happen http://img152.echo.cx/img152/7790/dsc034503jw.jpg Now I'm off to the dealer. They have a bulb with my name on it. I'll be back to complete this task soon. |
Good job. I had read before on this board to use a little piece of rubber tubing to pull it out.

The part was waiting for me as promised. That's another $1.08 I had to spend on this high maintenence car :P
http://img205.echo.cx/img205/4346/dsc034518ey.jpg Here is the new bulb being inserted finally. http://img205.echo.cx/img205/3555/dsc034521ko.jpg I forgot to mention earlier that I had to remove these 2 plugs to separate the push button assmbly . http://img205.echo.cx/img205/679/dsc034542sv.jpg So I put everything back together again. Here is a picture of the last screw going in place on the botom left of the wood trim. http://img205.echo.cx/img205/5736/dsc034552db.jpg And for the grand finale let's try it out...:vbac47679 Oh...the battery is dead once again :furious2: . I will give the car a boost tonight and see if the left and right side of the console light up. |
I have each and every interior light working now. Here is a pic of the center console push button assembly with both sides working:
http://img19.echo.cx/img19/5197/dsc034572bf.jpg If you look closely you can see the defroster lit up on the left and the "o" button on the far right lit up as well. I took a few pictures, but wasn't able to take good ones. It's finally over :vbac47679. |
one more thing. I have heard that touching these bulbs w/ bare fingers leaves a residue on them that decreases their life, but that could be bs for all I know.

But why! Oh god why! Did you take out the hood star!!!!??!!!??!?!??!??!??!??!??!?!?!?!?!??!?! I know I know... Personal taste... I like my hoodstar... I will learn my lesson though when the days comes when someone tries to rip it off.... :( How is that Acura Legend? I see so many of them on the road, almost as common as W124 cars... how does it compare to the W124 in power and ride? |
