Pulling to the right?

In my '88 300CE I had my steering box rebuilt, new control arm bushings installed and an alingment from a really good shop in town. What a difference in steering feel. However, now it pulls the right, not severly but an annoyance nonetheless. I took it back and the shop, they did another alignment, no help. What could be causing this?

What is the condition of your tires? Were they the same ones that were on the car before the repair? Did you do a tire rotation?

Where I live, the road dips to the rain the channel rain so most cars will have a slight tendency to pull to the right.

Tires are the same ones as before the repair. I understand that the road does play a aprt in the pulling to the right. However why does it do now more so than before? Could it be the tires?

Maybe before you aligned the car, the tires were wearing a certain way, and now that the car is aligned, the tires are not making contact the same way. Do you have a before and after readout for your alignment? Here is mine that I just had done for my 1989 300ce. The printer at the shop didn't work that day so I wrote it out on a piece of paper:

Here is another alignment I had done one of my other cars:

No, I did not get a read out. I'm due for new tires soon anyway. The tires on the car are 7 years old, I bought the car about 6 months ago and it was in storage. The steering box was leaking and leaked power steering fluid all over the control arm bushings, thus destroying them.

Do you have the factory 15 hole wheels? What size and brand tires do you have?

john berry 06-03-2005 06:11 PM

Yes, right now. I just purchased some 8 hole wheels off a 1995 C class. The car came with 215/60/15 Toyo Proxie H4's on it. I'm going to replace them with 205/60/15 Yokohama Avid H4S's on the new rims. The tire still have tread life left on them, however i'm seeing deterioration in the sidewalls. I'm also wondering if I can use the same lug nuts?

The alignment you see in my post above, the printout, was done with 205/60/15 Yokohama Avid H4S. That is the exact tire and size that I have on my Legend right now. The tire works great. It's quiet, great in rain, comfortable, but lacks in handling compared to a V rated tire. Our cars call for a V rated tire. Even my Legend calls for a V rated tire. The other problem that I have is that they are wearing down real quick, especially on the front tires since the Legend is a front wheel drive car. Most of teh wear is on teh sidewall. I put the Yokohama Avid H4S tires on the Legend, because I was hoping to get increased mileage with them over the last set which was the Yokohama AVS dB S2. They only lasted 11,000 miles on the Legend. I had the Legend aligned 3 times this year, had the tires rotated at the scheduled time, and I check the pressure regularly and still they wore out quick. The 300ce just got the Michelin MXV4 S8 195/65/15 V rated. So far they seem to work real well considering I've driven approximately 25 miles on them.

Btw I love the look of the 8 hole wheel on these cars. Congratulations on your purchase
