My car had the original radiator in it, only the top neck broke last year. So lets see 2004-1990 = 14 years of no broken neck. You do not need a reinforcement. Just dont over tighten the hose clamp. Just snug it up, if you car ever overheats to the point where it will build up pressure at the top neck, most likely the hose will just slip off, instead of breaking the neck or the plastic around it.
Also as far as I have thought about it, the designers of the car did not put in a metal insert, so why should I? Dont plastic and metal contract and expand differently from heat and cold? Yes. Ok, so buy, as suggested, a Behr rad put on new hoses, put on a clamp, slightly tighten and forget about it.
Think about it, if your car had such a problem that it would break of the neck of your rad because of overheating then I think a metal insert is just covering up a more serious problem, to do with fan clutch? bearing bracket? head gasket? etc.
