Thank you Larry. Silly me, after 12 years I have a second Ram Air Intake to the air filter on my 103 engine. The problem has always been no room for the additional intake. The light bulb came on. I purchased and installed a new OEM intake snoot, which is one piece to the scoop beside the A/C condenser. Using the original three piece snoot and reversing it's position, positioning the scoop end to the air filter, over the air filter rear hold down vib/stud. This places the original snoot over the cam cover to the rear at approx. 10 oclock(300 degrees) position. Then cutting off the original snoot in the middle of the accordian section and reversing the modified snoot placing the oblong end to the air filter and marking it's size to cut the hole in the A/F to fit the reversed snoot. That solved my problem, no room for the ram air. Loews Lumber has a 4" clothes drier installation kit; with a 90 degree inlet and grid to keep stuff out attached to a 12' length of aluminum tubing. Nothing original, I've looked at these before. I never found room on the right side similar to the left. Down down above and on the road pan, I placed the drier intake/tubing and sttached with Ty-bands to the chassis. You ask as I did, how about the exhaust manifold heat? I have my exhaust manifolds wrapped with insulating material, have had for quite some time and didn't relate to this application. The flmsy drier hose wouldn't last long. AUTO ZONE, 4" air inlet hose, expandable fom 12' to 36", perfect. Put everything together, duct tape the joints in the tubing and snoot, then wrap the gray tape with electrical tape for a black appearance, caulk the snoot to A/F openning. Check it out for fit and appearance. The road test. The throttle response is terrific once you are rolling and have forward air. Oh, I know it isn't cold air in the summer but it is RAM AIR and thats the advantage. Happy Trails Beep Beep from hot head Houston.

Donald.
finally
Thanks again Larry

Donald,I don't have access to a fax at the moment, but when I do I'll get back in touch with you. This sounds something like I saw set up on a Grand National before.

I might try that, in my Baby. How much better is the throttle response, and is the H.P increased by a noticible level. I also would like some pics. I might give myself a project this weekend.

Alon,
Maybe you should consider opening "COMPUTERWERKS". We can all go to the Grand Opening...eh eh eh. Are you in Georgia? Sorry, I could not resist!

Donald,

How is this working out for you? Are there any possible negative sideeffects? I have been thinking about picking up a 560SEL air filter assmebly, which is the same as the 420SEL except it has the second air intake hose. I think it would fit in my engine bay with no modification.

Well I don't seem to remember saying that anyone should feel free to E-mail me, but I do remember directing it towards donald. hehehe

JH... in Los Angeles. long way from georgia. If business goes well, who knows hehe we could have offices around the country. but thats a long shot because I don't see us expanding that fast or that huge.

I would love to see pics of the ram air mod you did donald. i'm sure it will be a well sought after mod. you better start marketing and working on a kit. hehe

Ram it Dang it. To all

I drove from Houston to New Orleans and return this week end. If really feels good to step on the throttle and hear the intake noise in response. Joan, Chaca(our Chocolate Lab) and little ole me drove with A/C at 12 oclock high,( speedo and tach at that position on a W124030 automatic), even there it pulled with added throttle. The real sensation is from a dead start. You apply a small amount of throttle and don't add additional, just hold your foot fixed. As it excellerates it feels as if it is getting on the cam, for at approx. 1500-2000 it just takes a deep breath and GOES. I imagine it's the addition ram air from the forward motion. At these speeds the fuel mileage was 27.5 mpg going East and 25.9 going west. Going East we were envolved in Construction Stop and Go with poor driving conditions. There was a slight headwind returning and it rained and the traffic wasn't as constant. How can I pass this on to those who want it? I took photos this weekend and had them proccessed, looks good. If I had duplicate prints made, would you pay for the cost of the print plus postage. I could enclose the El Cheapo Brake Bleeder to those wanting it as well. This is for those without FAX. Let me know how you would like to handle it. By the BY it looks good Too. Happy Trails Beep Beep from Houston.

Ram it to You all.

The 4x5 prints are good, There is two views. Above the cam cover and down on the exhaust side. The detail is good. Now if I catch a wind from the west and loft them high enough. and do the same for the Easterly, you should get them in about two-three days. For those with E-MAIL address, let me have it. Happy Trails Beep Beep from Houston.

Donald.
I think I started something.
Now how to finish it?
HELP and help.
That's for BIG and small engines.

just a suggestion...

instead of spending a few dollars on (our now more expensive first class stamps) to send photos, why not just go to your local Kinkos or similar type of office supply store...most of them will scan a photo for you and put it on a disk. This way you can send it to a member with a site, and they can upload it, and give you the URL.
