Has anyone ever used Diesel Doctor by BioBor? What symptoms did you have that made you think you had algae? Did the treatment work? Any other brands to use??

Redline makes a product called diesel fuel biostat. It's available here at PartShop. Using an additive with a demulsifier (water repellant) will help keep the problem under control for the future.

Yes, Diesel Doctor does work. I have had algae in my diesel fuel. You will know when the plastic filter gets clogged and the engine shuts off. Use clear(see thru)filters and check often by shining a flashlight up thru the filter. When it gets clogged, change it.It may take a few tubes of Diesel Doctor, and a few filters, but don't despair. You will get the algae out.

Where did you buy it from? I have seen it only in mail order and it cost more to ship it to Maryland than what the actual product cost. I want to buy it locally.

Hi,
A question...do you have any black particles in your pre-filter? The reason that I ask is that algae is usually only a problem in hot/humid areas. It was a common problem when I worked in Florida and Atlanta, but we just don't see it up here in Wisconsin, so nobody stocks alge treatments.

Regards,
Randy D.

I had a horrendous algae problem in my old 78 240D. No amount of additive cured the problem, so I finally had to remove the fuel tank from the car and sterilize it by swishing it with with acid -the dilute hydrochloric acid used for cleaning brick and stone is good, then rinse, then repeat the swishing with bleach, then very thoroughly washing with hot water and drying it and then reinstalling it. I still had a slight residual problem because my fuel lines were still contaminated but at least it was under control. The problem came about because it was originally owned by a LOL who ran through a tank of fuel only every few months and the damn stuff supports life. If you use a tank a week or two, it won't happen.
