changing the oil on my 95 C280
I just bought the car and I'm already breaking parts on in. When trying to change the oil today, I somehow cracked the cap of the oil filter housing, when trying to get it off, which I never did.
Can anyone tell me if mercedes makes some kind of special tool to get this off. A regular oil filter wrench don't work, because fo where it's located, and there's no way it's coming off with just my hands. Oh yea, how much trouble am I going to have finding this part? There's no driving the car without a new one, once it builds up presure, well lets just say it's embarasing to drive with that much smoke coming from my car. In need of some good advice Thanks |
filter wrench
After I bought my 98 c230 I bought an an MB filter wrench off ebay. Cost me about $50. Definitely the most expensive filter wrench I own but very effective.

Oil filter cap
Oops. I have a feeling you'll have to go to the dealer. The auto parts stores I see on line generally have oil filler caps -- where you put the oil in -- but not the cap for the filter.
Once you get it, check your local Advance Auto Parts for a filter cap wrench that you use with your socket wrench. There are various sizes, with and without fluting; you'll have to check to see what size fits your (new) filter cap. It cost me about 9.95 or so, as I recall. |
