I was on my way home from a long day's work. I started driving my car. I drove about 4 miles and was stopped at a red light. The car stopped running. It wouldn't start back up again. Fortunately, a tow truck was passing by and towed me home (20 miles). I went back in my car after getting home and it started up-no problem.
So what could it be? I had an oil change today, do you suppose that maybe something happened then? |
There are only a couple of things that will kill a 300E. I would start by looking at the wire that connects to the EZL...If a mercedes shop looked at it, they may have taken off this wire to prime the oil. If not, I would look at the fuel pump relay. You can pry the bottom open and look into it. If there are burned traces or spots, you have found the problem.

Did you hear the fuel pump energizing? It can be a lot of things. The fuel pump relay going south, alternator, OVP?

300E quit running
Unfortunately, I am mechanically challenged. I did not bring it to a Mercedes place to get the oil changed. I am hoping that it is just the wire. It seems very strange that it happened right after I got the oil changed.
My question is: should I bring it back to the shop that changed my oil and have them check the wire ? Or should I bring it to a Mercedes Mechanic. Do you believe that the shop is held responsible if it turns out to be a wire? If it is the latter (relay) what is the estimated costs? on such a repair? Thanks |
Don't do the same mistake twice! If you are mechanically challenged, bite the bullet and take it to a MB mechanic. You know by now, you get what you paid for...
