Help, I am in the middle of changing the filter and fluid on my 88' 300E and apparently do not have the correct size tool to remove the filter. Got the plug out and removed the pan but I have tried all my allen heads and can not find the right size for the bolts holding on the filter. Can anyone tell me the correct size?

Duh! Answered my own question. My eyes must be going. The filter is held on by three "phillips head" screws.

Crowe, Did you drain the torque converter? I was surprised at how many people don't even know about the converter drain. There is a lot of fluid in there. About 2 1/2 qts. Turn the converter until you see a plug. It's a 5mm allen same size as the one on the pan plug. Vin |
Silly question. When you drain the cars torque converter, does it fill up with fresh fluid when you fill up the ATF in the fill hole?

torque converter
Thanks, I drained the torque converter along with the pan of the transmission. Replaced the filter and while I was at it, I cleaned the shield under the engine. Back in business now but it did take longer since it was my first time.

Yes, the converter fills up. If you drain everything properly the transmission should take about 8 qts of fluid. Vin |
Check your manual to find out the correct amount of fluid for your car. For my 300E it calls for 6.6 qts for a refill.

Tony,
Did this fix your problem with your tranny? I should have told you about the 3 screws when we talked about this yesterday, sorry. Ken |
Not sure if the fluid and filter change has corrected the problem. Will have to see.
