Why is this vacuum hose unused and should I plug it? (Pics)
83 300D turbo
Check out the first pic. The hose connector broke and so I am temporarily running hoses into hoses until I get a new part (which makes me wonder why they used that male connector piece to begin with). But there's one hose here from the engine that had nothing connected to the other side. Should I plug it? Also do all the short hoses pull the same? ie, does it matter what plugs into the other side? Finally 2nd pic. My car has the shakes. Is that a motor mount and, yes the pic sucks, but does it look shot? Thanks, Matt PS - If anyone is experiencing the HARD CLUNK on downshift, check your vacuum hoses. I put up with it for years and finally figured it out. THe guides I have found show 3 used hoses:
1 to thermo vacuum valve 1 to 3 way fitting 1 to vacuum valve near winshield And the fourth hose is for??? The schematic I found doesn't show a fourth: http://www.ultrahot.com/vacuum/engine.jpg PS - I ordered new motor mounts, new engine dampeners and engine shocks for a final attempt at fixing my rough idle (already adjusted valves, new injectors, new dampening screw with adjustment). |

just read this regarding shakes.....
The problem could be a mis-adjusted injector pump. My 83 300D shook till you would get sick. I had my mechanic look at it and he adjusted the timing on the injector pump. No more shaking.
The procedure is in the Haynes manual and you need a special tool. |
