Swapping out springs and shocks on a 202 ( Raleigh Nc )

Other than a Klaan spring compressor (or a similar tool) is there a way to safely do the job. Buying one is way out of my budget, and the dealer and indie shops in my neck of the woods (Raleigh Nc) want 600.00+ to do the job. Any suggestions, or is anyone in my area that could do this for a reasonable price?
