I'm pretty sure you just take the VIN and proof of ownership to the dealer. In any case, a call to the dealer will tell you what you need to know.

you can take the vin number with registration to your local dealer the should be able to get the keys using that providing all the locks are original

Good Luck

Getting a replacement key could be a real headache, depending on your locale and the proximity to a Benz dealer. Most dealers will not make a replacement key unless you can prove ownership of the vehicle. I assume, since you have not been able to start said vehicle, you probably haven't had it registered in your name.
If that is the case, you will have to either get the registration in your name, or provide ironclad proof that you are the individual entitled to the "inheritance" of the vehicle. Aunt Polly's deathbed wish probably would fall short, though, an actual written will, bequeathing the vehicle to you, could possibly get you by.

In any case, you'll need the proof of ownership and proper picture ID. Good luck, and let us know if you have any positive results.

It might be less a headache to search eBay for a replacement ignition switch, with keys, and if you are in no hurry, or you would more likely find what you need at Fastlane. These are good folks, and help support this forum. You can find a link to Fastlane on the homepage, here, along with a toll-free number to call for assistance.

You need the vin and title or registration. The dealer doesn't make the keys they order them, from Germany.(afaik) MB's use laser cut steel keys, brass keys will ruin your locks. I think I paid about $20 each last time I had a set made. I need to get a set made next month for my SD.

I had keys made for my SDL when it was un registered. I had the title that was it, it is really a simple thing to do.

our parts contact at mercedes told me they don't usually come from germany, unless they are older cars or graymarket.
just for info only

Interesting, I am going to ask my parts guy when I order keys for the SD. They really are nothing special kind of seems like a waste to only make them in Germany.

When I ordered a new set for my car from the dealer, they came from Baltimore, MD, but I believe Mercedes also has a "key facility" in Texas.

My dealer parts rep told me they come from MBUSAs HQ in New Jersey.

MTIs came from another place?

Who knows?

As stated above, you need to simply go to your local dealership with proof of ownership.
