Shop/Repair Manuals on DVD - Ebay

I was browsing ebay, and I came across what claims to be a set of factory service / repair manuals on 2 dvd's. It claims to contain all MB's from the mid 80's to present. Here is the link to the auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7983958456&category=34227

Are these legit? Does anyone have any experience with them?

Thanks in advance,

George

I think the seller is someone from this forum...

They are recently expired WIS DVDs. I know because I bought a set. The older your car is, the less information available in the WIS. I ended up buying the w126 CDs from my dealer. If anyone would like a Feb. 2005 set of WIS DVDs, I'll gladly part with these.

Well I have a 96 c220 and a 2000 c230k in the fleet right now. If they have decent info on the w202 chassis I would definitely be interested.

E-mail me,

Take care,

George

I wasn't that unhappy with 'em. I was able to sort out my A/C (including an incorrect ACC controler) with 'em. That alone earned their keep. What I did find is that WIS is sorely lacking in wiring diagrams for my car, so I sprung for the CD manual.

is there anything i can do to make you feel better about your purchase? maybe i could give you a parts guide that covers all mercedes from mid 1960's until 2006 with free shipping? i would have given you the 126 cd set if i had known you needed them

I am posting this is from another recent thread

To further this conversation - I see several CD,DVD "Manuals"(126) on ebay - Can anyone share information about the content and quality difference among all these items? I own the official 126 CD which as posted many times before has for the most part, very poor photos. Like everyone on the forum I'm always looking to get better info, so I am very curious about these offerings but am not sure what the fuss is about. Here are two examples -

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7984517495&category=34227&sspagename=WDVW

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7983958707&category=34227

As a last note I quote from Carson356's reply here- " the ones i sell are usually a month old, the ones currently on ebay are 4-2005 and i have 5-2005 avail."

Forgive my ignorance with WIS, but what is the difference between these releases ? what happens in one month ?

the second one is mine, the main difference from month to month would mostly pertain to the newer cars, most of the older information is already there and does not need to be modified for newer versions

My only comment would be are these copies or are they originals. Perhaps the seller can enlighten us. If they are copies technically they are illegal and if they are copies the profit margin is extremely lucrative for the seller. I am not accusing the seller of this but there are other manuals on Ebay that are CD copies that sell for $10.00 and are used with Adobe Acrobat 3.0 which is at this point is about 5 years old and can cause problems with other versions of Adobe Acrobat currently installed. Considering that DVD burners are going for about $55 wholesale it is not rocket science anymore. Perhaps the seller can chime in on this..my 2 cents

i bought the "copies" of a 126 manual on ebay (not from the seller on this forum) they do work, and i didnt have any other problems......BUT they are in pdf files and are hard to use with explorer, if you dont use netscape they are all but impossible to use (in my experience) and they have no wiring info AT ALL!! i guess you get what you pay for, and the ones that or friend on this forum are selling seem to be original and of better quality

I bought the DVD's for an '01 S430 with a noisy rear end. It showed step by step how to remove the unit from the car and how to take it apart and put it back together. After seeing the complicated and precise procedures not to mention specialized tools required, I decided it would be better just to get a used one from the junkyard but the DVD's paid for themselves in the just the R&R information. Sold the car but cant wait to get another late model Benz that needs some work! I had to buy a DVD player and the DVD's may be a bit complicated to install but the seller was helpful and once on your conmputer you are set for life.

Don't worry about it. As I said, I got enough use out of them to justify the purchase.

Sorry if I sounded upset.

FWIW, the factory CDs also present information in pdf format, including wiring diagrams. The MB front-end program looks for the CD in the drive, and won't run without it being present. I'm guessing that the copies either hacked the verification process, or just copied the pdf files.

copies or not

i cannot say for sure, if they are copies, i buy them from a wholesale outfit in europe, i have seen the original disc and theses look the same as them.
