W124 Fuse location for convertible top?
Cannot get either the convertible top to go down or the roll bar ('tomb-stones') to rise at the moment. Both controlling switches flash red as they should but refuse to do anything when pushed.
Assume (hope) it just a fuse, but am struggling to locate it. Did read somewhere that there's a fuse block somewhere near the right wheel housing where the top's hydraulic unit is also to be found. Can someone please advise from where you access this - i.e. under back seat; within the boot (trunk); under the car? Regards, Neil ('92 300 CE-24 cabrio) |

The A124 (Cabrio 124) has a special control module fitted BEHIND the rear backrest. You must take out the rear seat backrest at it will appear directly in front of you at the center.
This module is famous for malfunctioning, and it controls both the top and the roll bar. Once it starts to misbehave there is no other solution but to change it for a new one. The problem is cost: about US$1,500. Before buying it, I will ask the service department at the dealer to just try the new part to see if it fixes the problem.

carson356 - spot on!
There are 2 fuse holders just in front of the battery that I've never noticed before - both hidden under black plastic covers: The larger one contains 2 regular type fuses - both mine are the white type (8a?) and un-broken. Read somewhere that these are for the soft top control unit and roll over bar. The smaller holder contains a fuse in the form of a thick metal strip screwed in place (30a?). Visually it looked fine, but once I pressed it with my finger I realised it was neatly split in two. This I understand to be for the actual hydraulic unit. Presume both the soft-top and roll bar are driven from the same hydraulic unit. Will get a new fuse and see if that solves things. Cheers, Neil |
