Ignition problem revisited w/pic

1 Attachment(s)
Was going back and forth with Arthur D. on this one so I hope he picks up. Put a new ignition switch in the TE today,,,, finally,,,, and everything works fine except for one little detail. I can get the engine running, but it won'
t come out of park. I have the cable connected to the ignition,,, and by the way, I have NO idea how that thing works,,, but won't shift out of park. I purchased a new NSS,,, see picture,,, but cannot locate the old one to save my life. Anyone have a confirmation if this IS a NSS, and where do I find it ? And do you think that is the problem ?

The NSS is on the left side of the tranny.. Two bolts mount it.
The trick is the connector.. to remove it , you have to turn the outside ring/lock on the connector to get it to release.
Archieves articles on it..

The cable to ign sw is the release for P , so , seeing that you just changed the Ign Sw, you may not have that back correctly, but don't forget, you also have to both press the brake pedal and have the key on to shift out of P
I would check that first b/c maybe you forgot that ???

Thanks Arthur. I did have the engine running when I atempted to get it out of park,,,, with the brake pedal depressed. Don't know how the doggone switch could be in wrong, as it only seems to go one way. I will keep trying though. Thanks again.

The 1990 & later cars have a "blue" plastic cam between the ignition switch & the steering lock! That cam must be installed properly & the cable connected fot the shifter to move from park!

IF you are sure of that? possibly the shift interlock cable needs adjusting at the shifter!

Did not see that cam when I dissassembled the ignition. The plug with the wiring prongs just fits into the housing with 3 screws. Do you mean that there is a cam between the plug and housing ?

OOps,,,, I found the cam thingy. Will probably work a lot better with that in there. Thanks !!!!!!!!!

That was it !! Everything seems to be working properly. Sincerely appreciate all the help,,,, thanks. :D

I got an 96 E320, Hi I was looking through the forum for the issue I'm having, the sticking ignition, key goes in and out but I got to wiggle, twist the steering and key and force it for about a minute or two to get the ignition to turn everytime I get in to start the engine. I saw your post on the ignition shift interlock and at this point I think thats what I need to try now. Is that adjustment from inside the car, if so how do I get to it, or from underneath the car. And could u e mail the adjustment procedure to me if its not too much trouble. Thanks Dee.
