And, can anyone recommend a good manual for the car (I know there won't (probably) be anything specific yet, but maybe one that uses the same, or a close, engine type.
Also, is there a factory repair manual available for the car, in book, CD ROM, or otherwise? If so, how much, and how can I get a hold of it? (I know, the car is under service and warranty, but I like to know as much as possible, its a hobby to me). Thanks! |
MB doesn't publish manuals anymore!
The oil pan torque is 30nm = 20ftlbs. |
Thanks for the torque spec.
If MB doesn't publish manuals anymore, how does the dealership service dept (or independent shops) figure out how to work on the new cars?!? |
The dealers have schools, training CD's and WIS they get from Mercedes-Benz.
WIS is also available for a subscription fee to independents. Independent shops can EASILY spend several thousand dollars on the latest technical info from Mercedes. It's just a cost of doing business. Mercedes does NOT make it easy or cheap to work on their cars...especially the newer ones! |
Brian,
Oil drain plug torque = one good yank on a box end wrench. Have a great day, |
However...
Prior to one good yank (aka: 1 grunt torque), be sure to install the new copper washer that should be supplied with your filter. Failure to do so could lead to the drain plug seizing to the pan.
|
Yeah, that's the "torque spec" I've used on my drain plugs on all my cars for the past 20 years (with no problems), but, on my brand new, 1000 mile car (my first, and possibly last, brand new car), it somehow seems appropriate that I break out the torque wrench . . .
Also, was pleasantly surprised at the $7 cost of the oil filter top wrench at the dealer. Didn't think ANYTHING with the MB star on it, and of that weight, could cost $7 at a dealer. Thanks for the tip, Larry! |
I'm am with Larry
I always check the calibration of my yank by seeing if it is leaking.
