Funky smell from A/C

When I first turn the A/C on I get this funky smell. Kind of like a rotten old rag, but not as bad. Any suggestions? I thought it might have been the cabin filter, but nope. Any ideas fellas? It's a 98 CLK 320 by the way.

There is probably fungus growing on the evaporator. There is a special spray you can get from the auto a/c suppliers such as www.ackits.com or www.acsource.com. I have just used lysol in the past with some success.

Good luck,

Good luck,
So how would I go about spraying this on the evaporator itself? Take apart the dash? From under the car?
