For anyone interested...

We added a few things to our MB Autowerks construction update page today. It includes elevation sketches, site drawing, floorplan, etc.

Take a look and give us some feedback!
Here's a link:

Fantastic, better layout than at the new local MB dealership! But only 57 parking slots outside and 8 - 10 inside. Lets see, after staff, owners, and techs parking, that means only room for about 45 forum members at the grand opening, and no space for a burn out competition. (In my 300E, yeah, right.)

I did not see where you put the computer terminals for us to logon to the Forum while we wait for our oil change. OK, may be we will be so busy talking to Bill, Donnie and Lee about our upgrades that we let our "addition" goes to the wayside for a few minutes.

BTW, I notice the sign said "pre-owned sales". I presume this means that if I should fly to Atlanta for the opening, that there will be an adequate selection of pristine, low mileage, Donnie tuned and Lee detailed 400 and 500Es available for my perusal should I develop an impulse for a subdued and genteel tour back to CA? Almandine red, if you please. (That is, if you run out of other things to do before opening day !)

Actually, we DO have computer terminals! If you look at the floorplan you will notice 2 workstations located at a window overlooking the shop. These are for customers and will have high-speed internet access and speakerphones. You will be able to surf the Shop Forum while watching Benzmac tune the performance of your car on the dyno.

Looks great!

But I think you're going to need more space for parts, and some space for someone to package stuff. Another office would be good too (two for the house, and one for administration of parts sales for other makes) And also space for a display case of MB Autowerks paraphanalia (hats shirts, whathaveyou) I have learned that when planning a business, that, whatever you think will be enough room, is usually not enough, and you will wish that you would have made it 30% larger. Looking at the plans, you really have no place to go, so I suppose a second floor would be in order...overlooking the service area with huge windows, soft music, highspeed internet connections, and some pretzels and german beer. (ok I'll settle for doughnuts and coffee )

-Larry
PS: Where is the big tent going to go with the ooompah band and the kegs? (just for the grand opening, not all of the time, although I imagine it would enhance customer volume)

We can double the parts space with a mezzanine but, we may not need it. We can get 6 deliveries/day from one of our parts suppliers and 4/day from another. We'll learn as we go...

I'd rather have a bush than a tree

...unless it has roots.

WAIT! STOP THE CONSTRUCTION!

You're constructing this building on the wrong lot! It should be on the lot next to my house!

BTW, J.HIDALGO, are you a police officer? I expected your question to come from Mike Tangas.

The shop's gonna be beautiful,

Are the parking spaces going to be extra wide to help avoid door dings? I hate it when cars are squeezed into existing narrow spaces after being serviced by my local dealer.

Don't eat as many as I used to..

I still like a good fluffy glazed donut now and again, specially on Sunday mornings when the road is quiet. In my youth (20ish) I'd stop at the local Shipley's in Spring and get one dozen each and every morning (predisposition???). They knew me so well, they'd bring mine out of the back, still hot with the glaze running off.

What I really need is a very large coffee pot. That'll tide me over once my very large thermos runs dry .

Mike,

I've never known where the donut/police officer association came from, but you have a better since of humor about it than an old friend of mine. My neighbor and fishing buddy from fifteen years ago was a sergeant running the career offenders program in the Arlington Police Department. I guess he took offense at the jokes because I could never get him to eat a donut.

He is now the Deputy Chief of Police, so maybe not eating donuts helps, who knows?

BTW, I'll make a deal, if you'll come to Atlanta, I'll bring the coffee pot.

Have a great day,
