1991 350SD Blower Motor Replacement

I have search the sites for information on replacing the blower motor on this vehicle. I curently have the passager side (lower) all pulled out. The only thing I have not removed is the air bag (no glove compartment). Please can someone guide me through locating and removing the blower motor. Again it's a 1991 350 SD (W-126) body. Thanking all in advance for your help.

Jim

I recently parted out the interior (95%) of it, so I can help you here.
The only difference is that the 300SEL has a glove box.

Remove the lower knee bolster. There are tabs in the pockets, pop those and unscrew the screws. Look underneath, and remove all screws in the vecinity. You will end up looking straigh up into a black box. I believe there are 4 screws or hex nuts that holds a panel to the bottom of the black box. Once you remove that panel, you will see the blower motor and its accesories. Essentially, everyting is underneath the glovebox, in this case.. your airbag. You will have to go down and look up. Good luck!

p.s. if you need a replacement blower motor incase yours is bad.. I've got one.

Thanks Snibble

Just wanted to say thanks for your assistance. I also want to say how helpful this website and the members are. Being and ex owner of a starter and alternator shop, I was able to rebuild my motor (the brushes were completely worn). It worked at times after I pounded on the dash. Once I had it reinstalled and still not blowing I checked this site once again. To my surprise the 30 amp fuse strip had a hiar line crack. If anyone should run into this problem, unscrew the fuse an take a good look, I looked at it twice thinking it was ok. I replace the fuse - cost about $2.00.

Thanks
Jim

.. to add to Jims observation of the common hair-line crack on that fuse, there is also a common problem on the bullet type fuses .. they look cool but do not conduct on the ends.. which is why it is advised to twist them in their socket.

... so , the point is that the best way to test a fuse on a Benz is with a 12v test lamp. Go from ground and BOTH sides of the fuse and you can not overlook a bad fuse/connection...........

Thanks Arthur Dalton

I hope the picture of the in-line fuse I put in place of the strip fuse for my blower motor (temporarily) will display. Thanks for the suggestion, Arthur.

For future reference, the "outside fuse box" on my car is just to the left of the main fuse box. My car being a convertible, there are some weights over the strut housing where I think the outside fuse box is on hard top w124s.

I see some guys put a 35 A reset button/breaker in place of the fuse .. RS has them too.
