Gas tank overpressue followed by fumes
My wife was filling up our 2001 E320. When she removed the hose, gas burst out of the filler tube, she says it seemed like a gallon though I doubt it. It's as though the tank had been pressurized by a faulty cut off valve on the gas pump (we're in CA with a tight seal vapor recovery system on gas pumps). A gas odor followed, not surprisingly. Three days later, the yellow low fuel light starts to blink rapidly on the gas gauge and she smells gas. We're headed for a dealer next week, but anyone have thoughts on whether this is a dangerous condition? Thanks

fuel problem
Hi When you fill up the vent and fumes go thru and into charcoal canister and are revamp from the purge valve and the shut off valve ,I would have them tested common problem when fueling up it will shut off and you have to fill up slow.joeym

When it cycles through tank pressure test, a leak will set MIL.
Uses about 1/2 psi to self check. Have two customers with late MB's that will not fill up with the pump trigger pulled all the way up on automatic shut off. One lady was 'drowned' to use her words at about half full when it shut of early and she was standing close. Would like to know if this is common problem or a 'return to dealer' suggestion. . |
