2.3-16 Clutch Pedal Over Center Spring

Can anyone comment on the purpose of the clutch pedal over center spring on a 201?

I have never liked the "kick" the spring gives the clutch pedal just before the top of the return. You have a nice smooth muscle set easing the clutch take up, then the over center spring kicks in and you have to break the set and compensate for the spring kick to get a smooth take up. Not nice.

It is well engineered but seemingly without purpose: but its there. Why? The simple return spring at the top of the pedal cluster returns the pedal just fine.

I have been driving without the over center spring for a few days, and the clutch take up is smoother and more freindly.....

Comments would be appreciated, specially if removing the spring is going to cause a problem; although I can not see how.

Thanks & regards,
bobf.
