Since this is my first post I want to thank the incredibly knowledgeable people who take the time to answer the questions in such detail.
Now my question. The heater fan (both slow and fast speeds) stopped working on my daughter's 300CE (106K miles). All fuses are good. I removed the switch panel from the center console and disconnected the (12-pin ?) connector on the right, but without a wiring diagram I didn't know which terminals to test for the switch operation. Other than the switch and the fuse, is there a fan relay that I should check as well? I suspect the switch panel myself, but I'd like to make sure before I spend $300 on a new switch.
Also on a separate subject, are these cars hard to start by nature? This car seldom starts on the first try, hot or cold. It starts on the second try. I replaced the spark plugs, which made no difference at all. It runs perfectly once started. I've had the car only 9 months and don't know about the condition of the fuel filter etc.

Thanks

how many miles are on it Harry?

have the plug wires ever been changed?

One of my first cars was a '74 2002tii - awsome little car.

I cant help with diagnosing the problem but in case you need to replace the fan motor here is a site with pretty detailed instructions on how to do it. http://www.mercedesdot.com check out the current issue.

this also helps me out as i have the same problem. at least i can take my motor out and check it. i think mine may be a ground problem. mine worked for a while when i removed an after mkt security system that was wired thru the two front windows, but then quit again, i wonder how the two are related. ground lugs ??

All fuses checked?

For the operation of the blower there is also an extra fuse located on the top of the left strut tower in the engine compartment. It is just forward of the main fuse box and holds only one fuse, the blower. It is overlooked by many not knowing that it's there. Just a small hint if you haven't ck'd it.

Make sure your vent button on the dash is not in the closed position. This also turns off the fan. If you take out the blower motor be careful with removing the wiper assembly around the windshield, if you force it out you will crack your glass. For the hard start, try changing your fuel filter.

blower motor

i checked the flat fuse in front of the box first thing. also my vents are open. whats weird is why taking out this relay that this cheap alarm had wired thru the two front windows made the fan start working. it has since quit.

300 e blower motor

after going to mercedesdot.com and looking at the pictures i finally decided to dig in to my blower motor. it took about 30 minutes to get to it, what a breeze. after getting the motor out and checking it out on the bench i discovered that it was just stuck. it ran fine, the brushes looked good too. i blew it out, put some machine oil on the shaft, dont know how much good that will do, and threw it back in and it seems to be working fine. dont know what caused it to stick but im glad i didnt have to buy a new one!! the fuse on the strut tower was corroded so i replaced it with an inline 30amp blade type.
