Just wondering if special tools are required to remove the inner door panel on a 1994 E420. I don't see any screws to speak of, so I assume that it is held on with pressure clips of some sort. I have a buzzing noise coming from the panel, the kind that goes away when you press your arm up against the panel, that I would like to eliminate. I assume that if I take the panel off and drive, and the buzzing is eliminated, the problem must be within the panel itself.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You have to remove the plastic trim around the switch assy's and the knob for the lock. There is a bolt under the plastic trim...

You then pull up and it will come off.

The rattle is from the wood. It has small nuts to hold it on from the rear. They loosen over time. Just use a small amount of blue loctite on the nuts and GENTLY sench them down.

Is there any special procedure for prying off the plastic covers around the door handle and seat adjustment buttons? Do I need to pull off the seat adjustment knobs first? Thanks.

Do not remove the little seat adjuster knobs. You stand a chance of breaking something inside the switch. Just pry off the trim as Donny suggested. Leave the switch as is..

Is the procedure the same for a 90 300e, I'm trying to tighten up the wood trim also, but having some trouble getting the panel off.

I removed the trim from around the handle for the door and removed the bolt, is it necessary to remove the trim around the seat switches? I have also removed the plastic piece on the door lock(manual door lock), and the trim piece at the lock assembly, but when I pull up(to slid upward) it won't move, am I missing something, or, are my hands just seeing the $$$ signs I'll have to spend if I screw up. Thanks for your quick reply, as I'm trying to finish this tonight.

Ken

I am having the same problem. I have removed the seat switch trim, unscrewed the door lock knob, removed striker plate, removed light at the bottom of the door and it still will not come off. Do you have to remove the lever that adjust the mirror on the driver side?

CJ,
On my 90 300e, I didn't need to remove the lever that controls the mirror. If you haven't already done so, you will need to remove the small cover that is directly behind the lever for the mirror and above the door panel, be careful, the plastic pieces that hold this on will break easily. Also, did you remove the bolt (behind the plastic door trim)that attaches the door strap? There are several hooks(clips)that hold the door panel on, and the panel must be slid upwards or you will break these hooks. Please keep in mind, I'm not a tech, but I have given some info on the lessons learned from removing the door panel on my 90 300e. Hope this helps.

I have all of these things removed, but still no luck. Do you have to remove the door opener, the liitle piece that you pull on to get out of the car?

CJ,
I did not need to remove the door opener(lever). Maybe some of the Tech's can tell you if there is anything else you need to do. Good luck.
