190E 2.6 temperature problem
When my 190E is not moving the temp spikes uncomfortably close to 120,; especially when the AC is running. What is the problem? No problems when the car is in motion.

Check to see that your fan(s) are coming on. They are temperature controlled. If they are not coming on at that temperature, then you need to trouble-shoot the systems to determine if it's the sensor or the motor/relay/etc.

The fans are not coming on (the two on the front of the radiator). How would I trouble shoot to determine the source of the problem? thanks, John |
Those fans are called your auxiliary fans. Do a search using those words and you will find a lot of info on diagnosis. Good luck

And if it's still going to 120 after you fix the fans, consider a radiator replacement.

What about the belt-driven fan between the engine and the radiator -- is that spinning? It's also sensor-activated.
In general terms... to trouble shoot it you have to systematically check points through the system to see if there's power to them. Check the fan, the relay, the power lead, and the sensor. Personally, my money is on the sensor. Jeff Pierce |
