Is this the end of my 500E?
I have a 92 500E that cannot hold a charge. My mechanic has determined that the control box for the ignition system is not powering down and is drawing 1.5-1.6 amps. Mercedes is estimating a replacement part at $2200, which puts me in a position of junking the car.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can find one of these for much less than $2200? I've owned this car for 4 1/2 years and in that period, have put over $11,000 into keeping it running. I love it when it runs, but that's only about 75% of the time. |
Rather than junk it out, why not jerry rig a switch to turn off power to the control box for the ignition system?

(I will pick up) The option above is a last resort action, but if it works............. |
how much is a used one?

i guess that's the challenge - to find a used one somewhere. my mechanic thinks this item is unique to the 92 500e. i thought maybe it would be the same in a 500SL, which had the same engine. i'm not car-savvy enough to know for sure.

Yes, it is no good. You will have to throw it away. Since I am such a nice guy, let me know where it is and I will sweep up the remaining drippings for you. :D
Good luck, |
