keeps on running
Aloha, I just purchased an 84 300D, 130,000mi. It ran fine until today. It starts normal, but when I turn off the key it won't shut off for exactly 8 seconds. HELP! :)

Low vacumn output from your vac' pump or a leak in the system.
There's a RED ...STOP....lever on the valve cover to turn it off if it never does. Push it towards the engine.. You will need to check the available vac' pressure to see if it is the pump or a leak stealing the vacumn. |
It's impossible to kill these engines... even turning them off won't do it. Hah.
But yeah, vacuum leak. |
keeps on running
The red stop lever works fine I can easily shut down under the hood.

Vacuum leak likely- my 201 does it too- but I haven't been able to locate the leak yet. In the mean time I just sit and wait for it.

For these vehicles the main culprits of vacuum loss are the door locks and/or the climate system.
If you want to isolate the problem, the door locks are the yellow line and the climate is the green line (under the hood at the firewall). Dont forget to plug the hole when you remove the line. |
I just helped a frind with a 85TD same problem. I located several vacuum leaks. 2 door locks, heater controls and the vacuum shut off valve.
