Torque Notation

When the service manual says to torque the connecting rod bolts to 4 + 1 mkp and them rotate 90 + 10 degrees, what does that mean for the initial torque? Torque to 4 mkp then 5 mkp then 90 degrees OR torque to 4 (not more than 5) mkp and turn 90 degrees.

I can't find a definitive answer in my service manual, and I can't just guess at it since there is a considerable difference between 29 and 36 ft lbs before you crank it down another 90 degrees.

I read it as 4 , no more than 5 ....

But , all my other books [after market] list them at 44/45 ft/lbs. Oil, no molylube.
No angle specs..

You may want to try both techniques and see how they equate..if you use the 4 and then compare w/torque wrenc. you know you still have the tolerance factor going up. [ 4, +1 ]
